May 31st Feast Day of The Visitation of Mary

The Canticle of Mary

“My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord;
my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant.
From this day all generations will call me blessed
the Almighty has done great things for me,
and holy is his Name.
He has mercy on those who fear him in every generation.
He has shown the strength of his arm,
he has scattered the proud in their conceit.
He has cast down the mighty from their thrones, and has lifted up the lowly.
He has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent away empty.
He has come to the help of his servant Israel
for he has remembered his promise of mercy,
the promise he made to our fathers,
to Abraham and his children for ever.

VISITATION OF MARY

Prayer to the Blessed Virgin Mary

by St. Alphonsus M. De Liguori

Most holy and immaculate Virgin! O my mother! thou who art the mother of my Lord, the queen of the world, the advocate, hope, and refuge of sinners! I, the most wretched among them, now come to thee. I worship thee, great queen, and give thee thanks for the many favors thou hast bestowed on me in the past; most of all, do I thank thee for having saved me from hell, which I had so often deserved. I love thee, lady most worthy of all love, and, by the love which I bear thee, I promise ever in the future to serve thee, and to do what in me lies to win others to thy love. In thee I put all my trust, all my hope of salvation. Receive me as thy servant, and cover me with the mantle of thy protection, thou who art the mother of mercy! And since thou hast so much power with God, deliver me from all temptations, or at least obtain for me the grace ever to overcome them. From thee I ask a true love of Jesus Christ, and the grace of a happy death. O my mother! by thy love for God, I beseech thee to be at all times my helper, but, above all, at the last moment of my life. Leave me not until you see me safe in heaven, there for endless ages to bless thee, and sing thy praises. Amen.

NOVENA OF THE VISITATION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY

AT THE VOICE OF THE MOTHER OF GOD, ELIZABETH WAS FILLED WITH THE HOLY GHOST, SO THAT SHE RECOGNIZED THE GREAT MYSTERY OF THE INCARNATION TO MARY; AND THE INFANT IN HER WOMB REJOICED. NOTICE IN THIS MYSTERY OF OUR LADY’S LIFE HOW GOD WISHED TO SHOW US THAT MARY IS THE INSTRUMENT AND MEANS BY WHICH HE IMPARTS TO US HIS GRACES. ADMIRE, TOO, THE CONSIDERATION MARY SHOWED FOR ELIZABETH. YOUR HEAVENLY MOTHER IS YOUR MODEL IN CARRYING OUT THE SECOND GREAT COMMANDMENT OF CHARITY. THROUGH HER INTERCESSION ASK JESUS FOR THE GRACES YOU NEED, ESPECIALLY THAT OF BEING CHARITABLE.

“PRAISE THE LORD, O MY SOUL, AND LET MY SPIRIT REJOICE IN GOD, MY SAVIOR!”

LET US CELEBRATE THE VISITATION OF THE VIRGIN MARY! LET US ADORE HER SON, CHRIST THE LORD!

GLORY BE TO THE FATHER, AND TO THE SON, AND TO THE HOLY GHOST. AS IT WAS IN THE BEGINNING, IS NOW, AND EVER SHALL BE, WORLD WITHOUT END. AMEN.

Prayer:

O God who didst lead the Blessed Virgin Mary to visit Elizabeth, to their exceeding joy and comfort: Grant unto thy people, that as Mary rejoiced to be called the Mother of the Lord, so they may ever rejoice to believe the incarnation of thine only begotten Son; to whom with the Holy Ghost be all honour and glory, world without end.

Amen.

Mary went with haste to the hill country, to a town of Juda. She entered the house of Zachary and greeted Elizabeth.

(Hail Mary)

When Elizabeth heard mary’s greeting, the infant rejoiced in her womb, and she was filled with the Holy Spirit.

(Hail Mary)

Blessed art thou among women and blessed is the Gruit of thy womb. Blessed art thou, O Mary, who didst believe that those things which were spoken to thee by the Lord would be fulfilled in thee!

(Hail Mary)
