St Margaret of Scotland-16thNovember

Matron, Queen of Scotland, born c.1045; died 1093. She was the daughter of King Edward the Exile of England. After her father’s death she and her mother fled from England; they were received by Malcolm III, of Scotland, who later, c.1070, married Margaret. As queen, Margaret used her influence in the interests of the faith; she convoked a synod which made regulations concerning the Lenten fast, Easter Communion, and marriage laws. She founded several churches, and was constantly engaged in prayer and pious practises. Canonized, 1259. Feast, Roman Calendar, 10 June.

St. Margaret’s Prayer

Lord, you gave Saint Margaret of Scotland a special love for the poor.
Let her example and prayers help us to become a living sign of your goodness.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God forever and ever.

Almighty God, we thank you for all of your gifts to us. We thank you for the gift of our faith, for our families and for the example and prayers of St. Margaret of Scotland. Through her intercession we approach you now, asking that we may grow in our love for you and in service of our neighbour. With confidence and through the intercession of St Margaret, we ask you to hear our prayers and grant us the graces that we need. (In silence we ask St Margaret to carry our prayers to the Father.)

Let us pray

O God, who made Saint Margaret of Scotland wonderful in her outstanding charity towards the poor, grant that through her intercession and example we may reflect among all humanity the image of your divine goodness. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, One God, forever and ever.

St. Margaret Of Scotland Prayer

Loving god,
You call your people to holiness and create among them models of kindness. We thank you for the life
of St. Margaret of Scotland:
a woman of leadership and hope in a confusing world;
a wife and mother excelling in patience, dedication and love;
a teacher supported and inspired by a life of learning;
a generous friend and a loyal servant to the poor and helpless;
a model of Christian faith and constant prayerfulness.
As we build our faith, help us to grow rich in the values of St. Margaret:
The faith hope and love might inspire
our presence in the city and neighborhood,
our relationships with family and friends,
our concern for the education of the young,
our care for the poor and the weak,
our community’s prayer in word and sacrament.
Bless our parish and our school;
Let it be for us a community of love and sharing, and a source of life and grace;
Let it be a witness to our neighbors of your life, your presence and your love.
Through Christ, Our Lord,
Amen.

Dear Saint Margaret of Scotland pray for us
to be generous to the needy,
to be zealous reformers and teachers of the Roman Catholic faith,
to speak with the “salt of wisdom,”
to be “filled with good thoughts,”
so that we can become “a pattern of a virtuous life” to those around us.
Amen.
