Prayers for Students

A Prayer for the School Day

Dear Lord, We thank you for this new school day and everything it has to offer. We ask that you give us the strength and courage to do our daily tasks with a positive attitude and an eagerness to learn. Guide us through each lesson and help us understand complex topics that may come our way by giving us the grace we need to remember and retain the knowledge. As we come together from different backgrounds, please help us to respect each other’s differences and work as a team towards academic success. Give us patience and grace when we face challenges in class and equip us with the tools needed to find solutions. Let us be united no matter the situation and never fear being wrong in our answers. We thank you. Amen.

A Student’s Prayer

Loving Father, thank you that you are my creator, you know me better than anyone else. Help me to use the mind you have given me to learn and study effectively. May I learn with humility and grace. May I grow in wisdom as well as knowledge. Let me live a life of integrity in everything I do. May I grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To you be glory, both now and forever. In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Teach Me Prayer

Gracious Father, every good and perfect gift comes from you. Please send your Holy Spirit to give me understanding. You said that your Spirit will teach me all things and guide me into all truth. Give me wisdom and understanding in everything I do today. When I become overwhelmed with the decisions that are placed before me, please give me the peace that surpasses all understanding. Clear my mind to follow you with all my heart, all my soul, all my mind and all my strength. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Prayer for Students

Lord our God, in your wisdom and love you surround us with the mysteries of the universe. Send your Spirit upon these students and fill them with your wisdom and blessings. Grant that they may devote themselves to their studies and draw ever closer to you, the source of all knowledge. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

St Thomas Aquinas Prayer before study

Come, Holy Spirit, Divine Creator, the true source of light and fountain of wisdom. Pour forth your brilliance upon my intellect, dissipate the darkness which covers me, that of sin and of ignorance. Grant me a penetrating mind to understand, a retentive memory, method and ease in learning, the lucidity to comprehend, and abundant grace in expressing myself. Guide the beginning of my work, direct its progress, and bring it to successful completion. This I ask through Jesus Christ, true God and true man, living and reigning with You and the Father, forever and ever. Amen.

Prayer before an exam

O Great St. Joseph of Cupertino who while on earth did obtain from God the grace to be asked at your examination only the questions you knew, obtain for me a like favour in the examinations for which I am now preparing. In return I promise to make you known and cause you to be invoked. Through Christ our Lord. St. Joseph of Cupertino, Pray for us. Amen.

Prayer Before a Class

As I go into class today, help me to understand to absorb to obtain knowledge to guide my thoughts and help me to use this for the good of all mankind so I can return to You with praises and thanksgiving. Amen

For a Late Night of Studying

Lord, Please help me to clear my mind of any distractions. Help me absorb everything I study and help me know that You are with me and that I am not alone even if it seems as if the whole world is asleep. Give me Your strength in the morning. Renew me, and refresh my mind so that I remember everything I studied. Thank you for the gift of knowledge and the opportunity to learn. Amen

An Athlete’s Prayer Before Practice

Most Glorious Heavenly Father, How great thou art! As we begin practice today, seeking to improve our physical strength, skill, knowledge of the game, and to grow in camaraderie as a team, we ask You to watch over us; that we may be free from injury, that we may grow in inner strength and endurance, that we may learn to love and support our teammates and coaches more, seeing them through the eyes of Your infinite love, and that we may glorify You in everything we do. We ask all this for Your greater glory, that the work we do here may serve our greater purpose of serving You, that by growing in physical virtue we may grow in spiritual virtue, and that this athletic journey will help us in our ultimate journey towards union with You in heaven. We ask all this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

A Student’s Prayer

Loving Father, I stand before You in the midst of confusion and complexities of life. My future sometimes seems distant and unknown. Give me, O Lord, the vision to see the path You set before me. Grant me the courage to follow Your way, that through the gifts and talents You have given me, I may bring Your life and Your love to others. I ask this through Jesus, Your Son and my Brother. Amen

Children’s Prayer For Parents

Dear Lord! Fill our parents with Thy choicest blessings; enrich their souls with Thy holy grace; grant that they may faithfully and constantly guard that likeness to Thy union with Thy Church, which Thou didst imprint upon them on their wedding day. Fill them with Thy spirit of holy fear, which is the beginning of wisdom; inspire them to impart it to their children. May they ever walk in the way of Thy commandments, and may we their children be their joy on earth and their crown of glory in heaven. Finally, Lord God, grant that both our father and mother may attain to extreme old age and enjoy continuous health in mind and body. May they give Thee abundant thanks because Thou bast bestowed upon them the great gift of parenthood. Amen.

A Child’s Morning Prayer

Lord, I awake and see your light, For You have kept me through the night, To You I lift my hands and pray, Keep me from sin throughout this day, And if I die before it’s done, Save me through Jesus Christ, Your Son.

A Child’s Prayer

O Almighty God, who hast given unto me my father and mother, and made them to be an image of Thine authority, and love, and tender watchfulness; and hast commanded me to love, and honour, and obey them in all things: give me grace cheerfully and with my whole heart to keep this Thy law. Help me to love them fervently, to honour them truly, to yield a ready obedience to their commands, to comply with their wishes, to study their happiness in everything, and to bear their rebukes with patience and humility. Deliver me O God, from pride, rebellion and wilfulness, from passion and stubbornness, from sloth and carelessness. Make me diligent in all my duties and studies, and patient in all my trials; that so living, I may deserve to be Thy child, who art our Father in Heaven.
