On October 13, the Catholic community celebrates the 6th apparition of Our Lady of Fatima. It was a marvelous miracle of the sun above Fatima before 70,000 witnesses at a time, date and place that Lucia, Francisco and Jacinta, the three shepherd children, prophesied in the name of Our Lady of Fatima. The children were told by Our Lady that God would perform a miracle so that people would believe in the apparitions. All could stare perfectly at the sun without blinking, or even hurting heir eyes as the sun “danced”.
Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of God, appeared six times near the town of Fatima, Portugal between May 13th and October 13th 1917 to the three children and told them that She had been sent by God with a message for every man, woman and child living in our century. The apparition on October 13 was the last the apparitions of Fátima for Jacinta and Francisco. However, for Lucia Our Lady would return a seventh time, in 1920, as she had promised the previous May.
The public message of Fatima recalls that of Lourdes. Through the children Mary urges prayer for sinners, recitation of the Rosary, and works of penance. On October 13 she said: “I have come to exhort the faithful to change their life, to avoid grieving Our Lord by sin; to pray the Rosary. I desire in this place a chapel in my honor. If people mend their ways, the war will soon be over. ”
